South Coast Sheild and Social Sunday
6 June 2005
Seven Nowra Croquet Club members: Fay Lochrin, Marion Walliss, Collina Tarleton, Graham Cullen, Oie Malcolm, John Deeves and Margaret Sawers journeyed to Narooma last weekend, to compete in the annual South Coast Shield.
All participants had an enjoyable two days of competition.
Teams from Canberra, Bermagui, Narooma and Nowra vied for the honour of winning this year’s event. The end result was extremely close with all teams winning six games each, the winners of the tournament had to be decided on a four-way count back.
Bermagui were the eventual winners, Narooma runner up, Nowra third and as there are no losers at Narooma, Canberra came fourth
The warm welcome and hospitality at Narooma is second to none. The organizational skills of Max and Jean Murray and their willing team of helpers make the south coast shield a most enjoyable tournament.
Sunday at home was Social Sunday. Both Golf and Association Croquet was played. Members were able to bring their families along to try their hand at the various games.
Lunch consisted of pumpkin soup, curried fried rice, barbequed sausages and home made slices.
Social Sundays are held every second month at the croquet club. These days are always a great way for members and friends to enjoy good company fresh air and companionship in a friendly atmosphere.
Best of luck to Tim Murphy who is playing in the Champion of Champions Tournament at Tempe on the long weekend. Tim well be playing against top players from all over NSW.
Anyone wishing to try croquet will be made welcome any Saturday morning between 9.30 am and 12 noon. Club members are always happy to introduce new people to Croquet.
The croquet club is located at the memorial gates of the Nowra show ground
