Gold Pennants Victory

27 July 2005

It was Country versus City in the best of three play off between Nowra and Warrawee Croquet Clubs in the state finals of the Gold Pennants. Each club is represented by four players who meet the handicap requirements.

Nowra's team of Tim Murphy, John Deeves, Jean Pack and Claire Wilson took out the morning session three games to nil. Warrawee hoped to reverse their situation by changing the order of their players. Nowra stayed with their winning combination of John and Tim playing the singles and Claire and Jean combining for the doubles. Again Nowra won all three games and the state title.

Last year was Nowra's first entry of a Gold team in the pennants and they were runners up in this event. The club congratulates the team on coming out as the winners for 2005. Croquet continues to grow in strength in the Shoalhaven.

Claire Wilson

Tim Murphy played at Bundanoon against Dick Topham, Michael Walker & David Archer on Sunday 10th July. Tim won his game Dick 26TP to 0. A great effort, included in this score was Tim’s first triple peel in a game of Croquet. Congratulations Tim.

Tim is to play in the NSW Men’s Open Singles Event at Tempe Saturday 16th to Tuesday 19th July. Best wishes from all at Nowra go with him.

Congratulations also to Fay Lochrin who made her first five hoop break in a game recently

Nowra members have been fortunate indeed to have the expert coaching of Tim Murphy and Claire Wilson, The benefit of this coaching was very obvious in the recent Bronze Pennant games in which Nowra players were unbeaten.

Dr Stephen Metheringham visited Nowra club a few weeks ago. Stephen coached advanced players in leaves, openings and cannons. Stephen also spoke on sport psychology and sport nutrition during the lunch break. All members who attended the day agreed that it was of great benefit to all present. A big thankyou to Stephen.
